Description
The Pavilion in Riverfront Park, in Spokane WA. This is one of the Icons of our city left over from the Expo Worlds Fair held here in 1974. The Fair was all about the environment and it was very interesting to see what other countries were planning, at that time, for the future environmental concerns of their cultures. We have some unique Icons in our city, and I love this one silhouetted at sunset with the Spokane River rushing along in the foreground.
This structure was originally covered with canvas, but our harsh winters were too much for the fabric. Now all that remains is the skeletal framework, which we think is rather stylish. Under this massive skeleton is an ammusement area with some rides for the Kiddos, an Ice Skating rink, and the IMax theater. Going to movies there is quite an adventure, the screen is as high as a 5 story building. You really get the full effect of the area. It feels like you are really there.

Beautiful twilight scene... and I like the pavillion without the canvas (not that I've seen it with) --- I would think it would just look like a big tent! This is more interesting! V/F
