Description
This image was taken in the middle of a snow storm, in the Albright Visitor center and Mammoth Terraces area North-West Yellowstone. On this particular day I enjoyed a variety of weather. Anything from snow storm to sunshine, I was amazed at how quickly the weather changed.
Yellowstone is one of the most interesting geological areas that I have ever visited. I feel that everyone needs to go in the middle of winter so that you can experience the sence of how much heat and power lies beneath foot. All of this snow and ice that blankets the park this time of year seeps into cracks in the earth's crust and is heated in one of the largest caulderas on the earth, and then bursts forth from the ground in innumerable vents of steam, geysers, and mud pots. Only in the winter when the temperatures are very cold can one experience visually just how many vents there are in this park, all the power just beneath your feet.
