Description
Cannon Beach in Northern Oregon is by far my favorite beach in Oregon. Quiet, peaceful scenes like this play out on a daily basis. I could walk for hours on these beaches and listen to the surf rolling in offering endless peaceful sounds.
Tillamook Rock Lighthouse commissioned in 1881 to help guide ships entering Columbia River, was nicknamed "Terrible Tilly", because of it's location on a rock 133 feet above sea level. Exposed to storms and high waves, this was one of the most dreaded by the lighthouse keepers of all on the coast. The lighthouse was decommissioned in 1957 and is now on the National Registry of Historic Places. The closest view of this lighthouse is from Ecola State Park and Seaside, also visible from Indian Beach parking lot.
This is the beginning of the state's 363 miles of beaches, dotted with historic lighthouses, quiet fishing villages and dynamic modern ports. Nature, history and culture abound here along the Oregon coast.
The community of Cannon is welcoming and quiet. Cannon Beach community is known for it's art galleries, shops, great food, and seaside vistas, Haystack Rock, a 235 foot monolith, towers over the beach, and is one of the state's most photographed natural wonders. Also a great area for Surfers, as well as, locations all along the Oregon coastline.
