Description
This is Trinidad Harbor in Northern California. At the end of the day, this can be a very busy place. This is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I have ever known.
I grew up in this area and spent countless hours on the beaches. I remember in the early 1960's, there was an earthquake in Alaska and a Tidal-wave (as they were called at that time), came down the coastline of the western United States. I remember my dad waking my sister and I in the middle of the night and took us to higher ground. We lived in Arcata California, and there was higher ground close by. A few weeks after the Tidal-wave we took a ride up the coast along Highway 101 to Crescent City and saw all of the destruction that occurred. There were entire, small, towns wiped out completely. And I remember that there was a huge cement anchor shaped, piece or art I guess, in the center of the town of Crescent City which had been moved off of it's cement platform onto the grass in the city park. This structure was probably as tall as a 2 story building, so imagine how heavy that was. I also remember seeing all of the parking meters, still in the cement sidewalks, but all bent over and almost touching the ground. In the aftermath of the Tidal-wave the beach here at Trinidad was completely covered with driftwood. When I went back for my High School Class Reunion I went there and was surprised and, happily amazed that the beach had been cleaned of all of the driftwood. What a beautiful site it was to see, I had never realized how beautiful and peaceful this beach was as a kid.

What an amazing story, Sharon! The harbor shot is very illustrative of how busy it can get! v

What a lovely view. The title, "Busy Harbor" is really appropriate, given all those boats on the water.
